Prestigious Prize for Prized Mezzo

On April 19 following her concert with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, mezzo soprano Christianne Stotijn will be presented with the Dutch Music Prize, one of the most coveted music awards in the Netherlands. At the age of 29, the artist has already appeared in leading opera houses and concert halls around the world.

The 2007/08 season saw Christianne debut as Ottavia in The Coronation of Poppea and Ariana in Lamento d'Arianna at the Netherlands Opera as part of the company's Monteverdi cycle directed by Pierre Audi. Her season continued with concerts of the Missa Solemnis with the Gabrieli Consort conducted by Paul McCreesh, Mahler's Kindertotenlieder with the Residentie Orkest conducted by Neeme Jarvi and recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Caixa Barcelona, Deventer Schouwburg Hall, Anton Phillips Zaal in the Hague, Tillburg University and Musis Sacra in Arnhem. In January/February 2008 she made her debut at the Theatre de la Monnaie in the role of Cornelia in Giulio Cesare conducted by Rene Jacobs, returned to the Residentie Orkest for Berlioz's Les Nuits d'Ete conducted by Marc Minkowski, made her debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by her mentor Bernard Haitink and performed Mahler's Ruckert Lieder with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

She will finish the season with concerts of baroque with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, recitals in Nijmegan, Antwerp and Hamburg and concerts of the Missa Solemnis with the Dresdner Musikfestpiele, Haydn's Ariadne auf Naxos with Ensemble Orchestral de Paris conducted by John Nelson and finally concerts of the Sea Pictures with the Melbourne Symphony.
