Lars Vogt steps up in Berlin

Last week Lars Vogt crowned a busy two months in London and Berlin with three performances of Brahms 1st Piano Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle. Already in Berlin for concerts with Danish National Symphony under their Music Director Thomas Dausgaard, Vogt was on hand to replace Maxim Vengerov when the orchestra called. Renowned for his interpretations of Brahms, Vogt was described in the Berliner Morgenpost as "a German musician of international class. The perfect musical partner who sees himself as part of a symphonic collaboration... Rattle and Vogt played almost with four hands, one in the air, one the piano."

Other equally well received engagements in the last month have included his tour with Ensemble Wien Berlin with repertoire including Mozart, Poulenc and a new piece by Brett Dean to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Concerts with the Ensemble in London, Berlin, Vienna, Brussels and Lucerne were topped off by a solo recital at the Wigmore Hall.

More Brahms follows this season, with the London Symphony Orchestra in December and with the Czech Philharmonic on an extensive tour of Germany in January, and next May he returns to the Berlin Philharmonic for Beethoven with Kirill Petrenko.
