New Appointment

Following a whirlwind courtship Alexander Shelley was announced yesterday as the new Principal Conductor of the Nuernberger Symphoniker for an initial four year appointment starting in September 2009. One of several potential candidates for the position, Alexander conducted the orchestra in a Shakespeare related programme of Korngold, Elgar, Bridge and Prokofiev in September and was immediately invited to take up the position. His next appearance in Nuernberg will be on 8 August 2009 when he conducts the Symphoniker in front of an audience of over 60,000 in Klassic Open Air, Europe's largest open air classical music event.

Elsewhere in Germany Alexander Shelley is increasingly in demand. Later this season he will make his debut in Hamburg and Leipzig and his relationship with the Deutschekammerphilharmonie Bremen continues to flourish. Following very successful concerts with the DKP in Hannover and Bremen last month, he will shortly conduct their New Year concerts in Kaiserslautern and Cologne. He was recently appointed Artistic Director of their award-winning "Zukunftslabor" project which aims to build a lasting relationship between the orchestra and a new generation of concert-goers both locally and internationally.
