Elīna Garanča stars as Santuzza in The Royal Opera’s ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’

This week, Elīna Garanča stars as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. This appearance marks Elīna’s eagerly-anticipated return to the Royal Opera, since her critically-acclaimed portrayal of the title role in Bizet’s Carmen several years ago.

Following her sensational role debut as Princess Eboli in Don Carlos where she ‘tore the house down’ at the Opéra national de Paris at the start of the season, Elīna will begin 2018 with a concert tour of Mexico, followed by appearances with the Bayerische Staatsoper (Carmen), Staatskapelle Dresden with Christian Thielemann, Berliner Philharmoniker with Sir Simon Rattle, Weiner Philharmoniker with Rafael Payare, Wiener Staatsoper (Samson et Dalila), as well as gala performances in Luxembourg, Santa Monica, Seville, and Krakow.

In the classic pairing with Leoncallo’s Pagliacci, this Olivier Award-winning production sees director Damiano Michieletto present a ‘modern yet timeless’ interpretation of Italian opera’s most iconic double-bill. Conducted by Daniel Oren, the cast includes Simon Keenlyside as Tonio and Luis Gomes as Beppe.

Performances of the ROH’s classic double bill take place from 29 November to 13 January. More information here.
