Edinburgh International Festival 2016

The 2016 Edinburgh International Festival begins this Friday, presenting three weeks of world class theatre, music, opera and dance, and Askonas Holt artists feature throughout the festival.
Among the highlights of this year’s festival, we’re thrilled to be bringing Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Rotterdam Philharmonic to Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, for a programme of Gustav and Alma Mahler with Sarah Connolly
Magdalena Kožená, Kirill Karabits and Malcolm Martineau all make two appearances at this year’s festival: Magdalena in recital with Malcolm Martineau, and in Berlioz’s ‘Romeo et Juliette’ with Robin Ticciati; Kirill with the Russian National Orchestra; and Malcolm with Magdalena, and with Florain Boesch.
Simon Keenlyside makes a departure from classical repertoire for a performance of jazz, cabaret and Broadway songs alongside young British jazz musicians. This marks his second departure of the year, following very well-received performances as Fagin in Grange Park Opera’s ‘Oliver!’
Also making appearances are Louise Alder (in an all Handel programme with the Dunedin Consort directed by John Butt), Boris Berezovsky (performing Rachmaninov’s ‘Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini’), Kristian Bezuidenhout (in recital with Mark Padmore), Sophie Bevan and Edward Gardner (in Elgar’s ‘The Apostles’), Mikhail Petrenko (as Fafner in ‘Das Rheingold), Andreas Ottensamer (with the Keleman Quartet), Daniel Harding (conducting the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra), Rod Gilfry (in a production of ‘Così fan tutte’ recently premiered at Aix-en-Provence),  Sir András Schiff (with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig) and Simon O’Neill (in Schoenberg’s “epic mega-cantata” ‘Gurrelieder’).
The Edinburgh International Festival runs from 5 to 29 August 2016. Selected performances will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3, more information here
