Last week Daniel Barenboim and the Deutsche Staatsoper revived their great Claus Guth production of Don Giovanni. Christopher Maltman returned to the house to star again as the title role which he created when the production was originally seen at the Salzburg Festival; he has since performed this great role at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Cologne Opera and next season at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Dorothea Röschmann sung Donna Elvira which she also created in the original Salzburg Festival performances; she has since performed the role at The Metropolitan Opera, New York; La Scala, Milan; The Bolshoi, Moscow and previously with Daniel Barenboim at the Deutsche Staatsoper. Adam Plachetka sang Masetto, which he also starred in when the production was new in Salzburg; he has since performed the role at the Wiener Staatsoper and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Anna Prohaska sang Zerlina which she has performed at the house previously; Anna has also given this role at the Salzburg Festival; La Scala, Milan and with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
