Dallas Opera’s ‘Eugene Onegin’ with Andrei Bondarenko, Stephen Costello & Greg Fedderly

Eugene Onegin opens at Dallas Opera on Friday 28 October, starring Andrei Bondarenko as Onegin, Stephen Costello as Lensky and Greg Fedderly as Monsieur Triquet. Emmanuel Villaume conducts Jean-Claude Auvray’s classic period production.
Andrei Bondarenko makes his return to the Dallas Opera where previously he has sung the role of Robert in Iolanta (2015), this time in title role of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. After Dallas, Andrei will go straight on to sing L’Elisir d’amore at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Onegin at Deutsche Oper Berlin (with Sonya Yoncheva, Benjamin Bernheim & Samuel Dale Johnson) and La bohème at Oper Köln. In the New Year he will sing Pelléas at Scottish and Vilnius City Operas, and La bohème (also with Benjamin Bernheim) at Opernhaus Zürich, where he is a house resident.
Greg Fedderly makes house and role debut in the character role of Monsieur Triquet. His recent engagements have included Don Basilio Figaro for the Metropolitan Opera, Red Whiskers Billy Budd and Gheraldo Gianni Schicchi for LA Opera, and Monostatos Die Zauberflöte for San Francisco Opera. Forthcoming engagements include reprising the roles of Don Basilio and Monostatos, and a return to the Metropolitan Opera.
In addition to his role debut as Lensky, Stephen Costello will reprise the roles of Greenhorn/Ishmael in Heggie’s Moby Dick, roles he originally created for the company’s world premiere in 2010, when Opera magazine hailed him “a tenor of ineffable sensitivity, with unfailing elegance in singing and disconcerting ease in producing notes in head-voice.”
These performances in Dallas follow Stephen’s recent debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Andris Nelsons, where he joined Renée Fleming and Susan Graham for an all-star concert performance of Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier. As the Boston Classical Review reported: “The standout was Stephen Costello as the Italian singer, who sang with ringing brilliance”; while the Boston Globe anticipated that “Costello’s buttery Italian Singer will likely be in demand for future productions.”
Eugene Onegin opens on Friday 28 October with further performances on 30 October, and 2 & 5 November.
Moby Dick opens on Friday 4 November with further performances on 6, 9, 12, 18 & 20 November. The opening night will be simulcast LIVE from the Winspear Opera House in Klyde Warren Park – more information here
