Christine Rice makes her role debut as Ruggiero in Handel’s ‘Alcina’ in Madrid



Toi, toi, toi to Christine Rice who makes her role debut as Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina at the Teatro Real, Madrid in a production by David Alden. Christine takes on the role of the knight who falls under the spell of the sorceress Alcina before love saves him, leading him to strip Alcina of her powers and restoring the world to rights.
This is a season of debuts for Christine, who sang her first Gurre-Lieder in Brazil last month and appears at the Salzburg Festival for the first time next summer. Christine will also revisit her much-loved roles of Penelope in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria in Oslo and in the title role of Carmen in  Zürich.
Performances in Madrid will take place on 27 and 31 October, 2, 4, 6, 8 November 2016.
