Bostridge in ‘Passion’ success

North American success for Askonas Holt artists.

Congratulations to Ian Bostridge who has just completed a tour of Bach’s St John Passion with the Violins du Roy, taking in Québec, Montreal and culminating triumphantly at a sold-out Carnegie Hall. Bostridge, under the expert baton of Bernard Labadie, performed the pivotal role of the Evangelist to much critical acclaim. The New York Times said that he sang “…with malleable phrasing and a creamy tone…by now he has transformed the role — that of a slightly aggrandized narrator — into a star vehicle [and]…determining its pacing with his dramatic pauses, handoffs and physical postures, almost as much as Mr. Labadie did.” whilst Seen and Heard commented that “the particular success of this performance of Bach’s St. John’s Passion came from the moving, pure and precise voice of the Evangelist, sung by the eminent Ian Bostridge.”.

The cast were led by Labadie whose performance, according to The New York Times, “set a high standard…” whilst Le Soleil claimed that bass-baritone Neal Davies “captivated” and bass-baritone Hanno Müller-Brachmann sang with a “rich and velvety” timbre.

Congratulations to all artists.
