Outstanding recital at the Carnegie Hall.
Congratulations to Thomas Adès and Ian Bostridge who took New York by storm on Monday with an outstanding recital at Carnegie Hall. Theirs is a long standing musical partnership but this was their first appearance together in the main Carnegie Hall auditorium, indeed their North American debut as a duo. An artistic collaboration that began at the Aldeburgh Festival back in 2000, during Thomas Adès’ artistic directorship and subsequently continued at Ian Bostridge’s residency at the Schwarzenberg Schubertiade, they have been partners on disc for EMI classics and famously Ian Bostridge created the role of Caliban in Thomas Adès’ magical opera The Tempest when it premiered at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
They wowed both the rapturous Carnegie Hall audience and the New York critics alike, One reviewer wrote that “we never wanted this extraordinary performance to end. But we left feeling bliss, as we await another performance by these two consummate artists.” While another critic described it as a “spell-binding bardic evening at Carnegie Hall”.
