Berliner Philharmoniker return to the BBC Proms

Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker are set to impress with two performances at the BBC Proms this September. With their most recent appearance at the Proms being back in 2012, the orchestra and their Maestro return for a set of fantastic concerts.
The first is an all-Russian programme inspired by dance:  Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances and Stravinsky’s The Firebird. The second is Bach’s St Matthew Passion with a stellar cast of soloists, ritualised for the stage by Peter Sellars. The production is a continuation of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s relationship with Peter Sellars: this production of the St Matthew Passion which was first performed at the Philharmonie, Berlin in 2010 and later in the same year at the Salzburg Festival to rave reviews whilst the St John Passion was performed earlier this year in three sold out concerts.
Joined by the cathedral choirs of Wells and Winchester alongside the Rundfunkchor Berlin directed by Simon Halsey, this Prom promises to be a performance to remember.
