The Russian coloratura soprano first came to international attention as the winner of the Gold Medal in the 2007 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. She is a graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio and has since appeared at Houston Grand Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, Metropolitan Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala Milan and Palm Beach Opera.
She has worked with conductors such as Ivor Bolton, James Conlon, Nicola Luisotti, Zubin Mehta, Patrick Summers, Vladimir Jurowski, Daniel Harding, Robin Ticciati, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and Riccardo Muti.
Recent operatic highlights include her debut at Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Die Zauberflöte) and role debut as Antonida in Glinka’s Life for the Tsar at the Montpellier Festival Radio France, together with appearances at the Bolshoi Theatre (Ruslan and Lyudmila), Deutsche Oper Berlin (Lucia di Lammermoor), Vienna Staatsoper(Die Zauberflöte), Houston Grand Opera (La Traviata), San Francisco Opera (Die Zauberflöte and Rigoletto), Chicago Lyric Opera.
Looking ahead Ms Shagimuratova will appear at Munich State Opera, Metropolitan Opera and Aix-en-Provence Festival (Die Zauberflöte), La Scala and LA Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor, title role), Opera de Paris (Die Entführung/Konstanze) and return to Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Don Giovanni). In concert she will sing La Traviata at Auditorio Nacional de Musica in Madrid and Britten’s War Requiem at the Edinburgh Festival and Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona.
