Many congratulations to Ann Murray, DBE who was awarded the Wigmore Hall Gold Medal last night at a Gala concert in celebration of one hundred years of Irish Culture in Britain. The Medal, inaugurated in 2007, recognises major international artists and significant figures in the classical music world who have a strong association with the Hall. The medal was presented to Ann at the end of the performance by the Irish Ambassador H. E. Daniel Mulhall.
The Gala concert was part of a week-long festival aiming to underline the extensive and productive network of contacts between the UK and Ireland, which has been especially fruitful in the fields of music and literature. Singing alongside Ann Murray were Robin Tritschler
, Ailish Tynan, Tara Erraught, Gavan Ring and choirs from the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Also playing were pianist, Finghin Collins and the RTÉ Contempo String Quartet.
