Alisa Weilerstein – ‘nothing less than five stars will do’

High praise for Alisa’s Elgar and Carter

Congratulations to Alisa Weilerstein, whose debut CD of Elgar & Carter Cello Concertos on Decca Classics with Deutsche Staatskapelle and Daniel Barenboim has received unparalleled praise.

Alisa’s performance of the iconic Elgar Cello Concerto ‘demands to be heard by any Elgarian’ (David Mellor, The Mail on Sunday – *****) and has been highly praised for her unique and ‘utterly convincing’ (Norman Lebrecht – *****) interpretation. ‘Within the first seconds, we know that Weilerstein speaks with her own voice. The muscular bowing, the sound’s depth and warmth in the opening bars: you couldn’t ask for a more characterful beginning…This is an extremely exciting and rewarding account.’ (Geoff Brown, The Times – ****)

This CD also features the Elliott Carter Cello Concerto which she ‘handles with aplomb’ (Tim Hofray, The Strad.) Alisa gave what we believe was Carter’s last televised interview in the summer. This was just before the recording of the concerto. You can watch the interview here.

Alisa is coming to the end of an intense six week European tour which has included performances with the Orchestre de Paris, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra di San Carlo (Naples), Finnish Radio and Orchestre National de Belgique.

Congratulations Alisa!
