Alexander Shelley opens his third season as Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra

Alexander Shelley opens his third season as Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa this week, with a programme featuring works by Strauss, Ravel and a piece written and performed by celebrated violinist Itzhak Perlman. Alexander’s first two seasons have been credited for turning the orchestra “almost overnight … into one of the more audacious orchestras in North America.” (Maclean’s Magazine)

This autumn, Alexander takes the orchestra on a cross-Canada tour to mark the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation. He will direct over a dozen major concert performances and 150 education and outreach programmes in communities across the country. The multi-media project Life Reflected will be premiered in Calgary and Vancouver, following its resounding success at the Toronto Luminato Festival last June.
