Ainars Rubikis makes his Welsh National Opera debut



Ainars Rubikis makes his debut with the Welsh National Opera, conducting performances of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Wales Millennium Centre and on tour around the United Kingdom. Directed by James Macdonald with Nicholas Lester in the title role, performances take place in Cardiff from 29 September to 13 October, before going on tour to the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (18 October), Venue Cymru, Llandudno (25 October), Birmingham Hippodrome (3 November), Liverpool Empire Theatre (9 November) The Bristol Hippodrome (15 November) and New Theatre Oxford (28 to 30 November).

Plans for Ainars’ 2017/18 season include further debuts with Jyväskylä Sinfonia (St Matthew Passion) and at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der alten Musik and return visits to Komische Oper Berlin (The Nose), where he will assume the position of Music Director from the 2018/19 season, Finnish National Opera (La traviata), Filharmonia Poznanska and Orchestre National d’Ile de France.
