Ailyn Pérez and Adam Plachetka star in Houston Grand Opera’s Le Nozze di Figaro

Houston Grand Opera and Glyndebourne’s co-production of Mozart’s revolutionary masterpiece, ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’, opens at Brown Theater, Wortham Theater Center Houston, on Friday 22 January.
The impressive cast, conducted by Harry Bicket and directed by revival director Ian Rutherford, is led by Adam Plachetka – making his HGO debut as Figaro – and Ailyn Pérez, returning to the house as Countess Almaviva.
Figaro and Countess Almaviva are signature roles for Adam and Ailyn, whose previous portrayals have been heralded by audiences and critics across the world:
“Soprano Ailyn Pérez was glowing as the Countess, her “Dove Sono”, sung with dignity as well as sorrow. Her voice was a golden filament that illuminated the nobility of spirit that would later lead the Countess to forgive her husband, the wayward Count.” – The Pioneer Press
“As Figaro, Adam Plachetka used his sonorous bass-baritone with nuance and assurance. His first-act aria “Non più andrai” had the requisite humor, as well as avuncular warmth, and showed a fine upper register. And in the fourth-act aria “Aprite un po’ quegli occhi,” he was notable for his phrasing and pacing of the vocal line.” – Seen and Heard International
Performances take place 22, 24, 30 January and 3, 5, 7 February 2016 – more details can be found on the Houston Grand Opera website
