Aida Garifullina will go to the ball

Rising star Russian soprano, Aida Garifullina, has been invited to sing at both the Dresden Semperoper Ball on 30 January and at the Vienna Staatsoper Ball on 12 February 2015. Both these culturally iconic events will be broadcast live on TV to audiences across Europe.
Aida made her debut at the Mariinsky in January 2013 as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, subsequently singing Gilda and Adina before starring under Valery Gergiev as Natasha in Prokofiev’s War & Peace and as the Queen of Shemakha in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel in 2014. The Prokofiev was broadcast globally and the Financial Times hailed her as a “major new talent”.
In December 2014 Aida made her debut at London’s Wigmore Hall. The Times wrote “There is much that is wonderful about Garifullina’s voice. It’s big but beautifully, evenly produced throughout the range and has a lovely rich sheen.”
Aida’s debut DECCA album will be recorded in Vienna for release later this year. The recording will feature music by Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov, many in new and unique arrangements, as well as an enchanting folksong from her homeland sung in her native Tatar language.
Aida also appears regularly in concert with Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli and Dmitri Hvorostovsky and is currently a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera where she will sing the roles of Musetta, Adina and Zerlina. Looking ahead, she will makes her recital debut at the Musikverein in Vienna on 23 March 2015.
