Trevor Pinnock
Trevor Pinnock is known worldwide as a harpsichordist and conductor who pioneered performance on historical instruments with his own orchestra, The English Concert, which he founded in 1972 and led for the next thirty years. He now divides his time between conducting, solo, chamber music and educational projects.
During 2009 he celebrates the music of Purcell, Handel and Haydn in solo recitals. He continues his relationship with the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester in concerts of Haydn and Mendelssohn. Haydn also appears in a newly devised programme of music and words in tours with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Purcell and Handel also feature in a return visit to The English Concert as a guest conductor.
Pinnock has chamber music tours in the USA, Japan and Europe with flautist Emmanuel Pahud and cellist Jonathan Manson. Their recording of Bach Flute Sonatas is released by EMI in October 2008. He has solo recitals throughout the UK and Italy.
During 2006 Pinnock founded the European Brandenburg Ensemble to celebrate his 60th birthday. Their recording of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos on the Avie label has been awarded a 2008 Gramophone prize. The ensemble will reconvene in 2009 at the Halle Festival performing Handel’s Theodora and in 2011 for performances of Bach’s St John Passion.
In educational initiatives Pinnock continues his work with the Royal Academy of Music, London, with staged performances of Haydn’s ‘La Fedelta Premiata’ and as conductor of the Concert Orchestra. He will undertake his first session as guest artist at the University Mozarteum Salzburg.
