Rudolf Barshai

Maestro Barshai has led a very distinguished career and has performed with the likes of Shostakovich, Richter and others and with important orchestras such as the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de Paris, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He is a noted recording artist and has recorded with labels such as EMI, Decca and others.

Rudolf Barshai has recently recorded a complete cycle of Shostakovich symphonies with the Westdeutsche Rudfunk Symphony Orchestra and Shostakovich's four Chamber Symphonies for Deutsche Grammophon with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He is currently recording his own arrangements for strings (Shostakovich) with the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi, Milan.

In 2000 he completed his orchestration of Mahler’s Tenth Symphony which has thus far existed only in creditable performing editions.

In the summer 2005 he has been appointed Conductor Emeritus of the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi, Milan, and this year conducted with them a programme which included works by rarely heard composing talent, Lokshin.
